Free Plane Rides
Launched in 1992, the Young Eagles program has dedicated 30 years to giving young people ages 8-17 their first free ride in an airplane. Over 2.3 million young people have enjoyed a free introductory flight through the Young Eagles program.
About the Pilots
The pilots participating in the Young Eagles program are local EAA members who volunteer their time and aircraft to make the flight possible. Each pilot is FAA-certificated, and all aircraft are government-licensed. Each pilot is required to complete EAA's Youth Protection Training and background check program. The flights are conducted in accordance with federal regulations, and no aerobatic maneuvers are performed. The pilot will explain to the child what will happen during the flight.
For Parents
The child's parent or guardian will need to fill out a slip with basic information, including the child's name and age, and a telephone number. Slips will be drawn at random, and the winners will be contacted via text message. Once selected, the child's parent or guardian must complete an online Young Eagles registration form.
- EAA can help you fill out the form and answer any specific questions you have.
- You will then be asked to electronically sign a waiver of liability.
- You will then be asked to go to the EAA Young Eagles waiting area, where the pilot will meet you.
- Up to 3 children can be accommodated on each flight.
- Back on the ground, there will be additional time for questions after the flight and the child will receive a certificate and a logbook.
- Please do not leave the waiting area!
- There is no guarantee that your child will fly.
